Oklahoma City, OK Oregon State sophomore utility player earned first team All-America honors on Wednesday and pitcher earned third team All-America honors, as was announced by Louisville Slugger and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). This marks the first year in which Oregon State’s softball program had multiple players garner All-America status in the same season.
Miranda is one of just three first team All-America selections in Oregon State softball history (McGowan (2005) and Tarrah Beyster (2000)). The Camarillo, CA, native broke the OSU school record with 52 runs scored and matched the single season mark with 16 home runs to date. She currently ranks second on the team with a .323 batting average and led the squad with a .313 clip during Pac-10 play. She was a first team All-Pac-10 and first team All-Pacific Region honoree.
McGowan picks up All-America accolades for the second straight year, garnering third team status after making the first team in 2005. The 6-2 pitcher from Reno, NV, holds a 29-7 record on the season and is looking to become the only pitcher in Oregon State history to compile back-to-back 30-win seasons. With 249 strikeouts on the year, she is the only player to record 200 or more K’s in two consecutive years. McGowan was named first team All-Pac-10, making her one of just two players (Beyster) in school history to receive multiple first team all-conference honors.
Making its inaugural appearance in the NCAA Women’s College World Series, No. 7 seeded Oregon State will face No. 2 seeded Arizona in Thursday’s first round contest. Game-time is scheduled for 10 a.m. PDT and will be televised on ESPN2.
