The Fourth Annual “The Other Side” had just about all one could ask from an amateur talent show, performed by Oregon State University student-athletes. The event was held at what became an overflowing crowd of approximately 450 at the Club Level inside Reser Stadium.
The event raised over $2,000, which will enable women’s rowing student-athletes Caroline Leibinger and Ami Rothberg to travel to
“It was a wonderful event,” Associate Athletic Director and event coordinator Linda Johnson said. “It’s amazing to think you see these student-athletes perform at a high level in their sports, but they are also very talented in other endeavors.”
The night began with the women’s basketball team’s Mercedes Fox-Griffin and teammates “step and dance” performance. Ruben Jackson and Brandon Hughes of the football team performed a song by Sisqo, Calvin Hampton of men’s basketball proved to be quite the comedian; the women’s volleyball team performed a Hula Dance, followed by numerous other acts.
Every intercollegiate sports team was represented and judged, to use the term loosely, by volleyball assistant coaches Salima Rockwell, Mark Barnard and Karla McDermott. Chrissy Lamun from gymnastics and Mitch Gillis from golf served as the emcees.
“I encourage the public to attend next year’s event which is always in the spring,” Johnson said. “People will be surprised just how talented these young men and women are.”
