WALNUT CREEK, Calif. The Oregon State University men’s rowing team placed seven student-athletes on the 2006 Pacific-10 Conference Men’s Rowing All-Academic teams, as announced by Commissioner Tom Hansen on Tuesday. Senior along with junior and sophomores , and earned first team recognition while senior and junior earned second team status.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
Carlton (Seattle, Wash.) earned his second straight first team honor for posting a 3.65 grade point average while studying civil engineering. Carlton rowed in the bow seat of the Varsity Eight in 2006.
Conners (Davis, Calif.), the coxswain of the Varsity Eight, also earned her second first team award with her 3.68 GPA in History.
The sophomores, Dirth, Halleck and Wagner all earned the first academic honors of their respective careers. Dirth (Manchester, N.H.) rowed the 6-seat of the 2nd Varsity Eight in 2006 and maintains a 3.50 GPA in Computer Science. Halleck (Salem, Ore./Sprague HS) rowed the 7-seat of the Varsity Eight and holds a 3.90 GPA in biology, while Wagner (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS), who also studies biology has a 3.98 GPA. Wagner has rowed in the 2nd Varsity Eight as well as the Varsity Four this season.
Besson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg HS), a team captain, earned a Pac-10 All-Academic award for the third time. Besson was a first team member in 2004 and second team in 2005. Besson rowed the 3-seat of the Varsity Eight in 2006.
Albers (Granite Bay, Calif.) carries a 3.40 GPA in economics and earned the first academic honor of his career. Albers rows the 4-seat of the Varsity Eight.
