Cheerleading Tryouts Scheduled

Oregon State University will hold tryouts on May 10-11 for the OSU Spirit Program, a new initiative consisting of a co-ed cheerleading team, an all-female cheerleading team and a spirit squad.
Part of the OSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Spirit Program will support OSU athletics teams, increase fan support and enhance the fan experience at athletic events, promote sportsmanship and represent the student body and alumni at university functions and public appearances. The program will work closely with the OSU mascot, dance team and marching band to create an exciting environment by cheering and entertaining, organizers say.
The co-ed and all-female cheerleading teams will have a minimum of 10 members and a maximum of 20 members each. The spirit squad will have a minimum of 20 members and a maximum of 30 members.
The specific skills that will be allowed during performances by each group will be determined in August after the NCAA and OSU Intercollegiate Athletics release their updated safety guidelines. Skills are expected to include cheer, tumbling, stunt, dance and crowd involvement.
Individuals trying out for the spirit squad will only participate in the crowd involvement station. All cheerleaders will tryout for all three teams, and judges will determine the best team placement. Appropriate attire includes athletic shoes, shorts and T-shirts.
