Corvallis, Ore. - Oregon State University student-athletes Vincent Johnson, Yuki Lamb and have been named to the 2006 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar team, Diverse Issues of Higher Education announced.
Johnson, from Portland, Ore., is a sophomore on the men's golf team. Johnson leads the team with a 73.88 stroke average and has had eight rounds under 70 this season. Johnson set the school and tournament record when he won the OSU Northwest Collegiate Classic with a 14-under 202 last fall.
Lamb, from Knoxville, Tenn., is a sophomore for on the gymnastics team and was a second-team, All-Pac-10 Conference Academic pick this season. Lamb was on her way to contributing to the team as an all-arounder this season before suffering a dislocated elbow. She made a quick recovery, Lamb provided a boost to the Beavers’ vault and balance beam lineups during the second half of the season.
McElroy, from Los Angeles, is a junior for the softball team. McElroy is 14-4 this season with victories over four teams ranked nationally in the Top 25. She has 86 strikeouts in 107.0 innings of work and has helped the Beavers achieve their highest ranking (#5) in program history. She earned 12 victories during Oregon State’s school record 28-game winning streak earlier this season.
To be a member of the Sports Scholar Team, individuals must be undergraduate students of color who have made achieving both academically and athletically a winning combination. Students must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.20.
