Fitzgerald Earns Academic All-District - Oregon State University Athletics

CORVALLIS – Oregon State gymnast (Beaverton, Ore./Westview HS) was recognized on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII women’s at-large first team, Thursday.

Fitzgerald, as a first team honoree advances to the national ballot which determines the Academic All-America team, which will be announced in June.

Fitzgerald, a junior, has a 3.98 grade point average in biology while taking her classes through Oregon State’s Honors College. Fitzgerald earned a spot in the uneven bars lineup in 2006 setting a career-high mark of 9.80. She also exhibitioned on the balance beam twice.

Nominees for the at-largeteams were taken from student-athletes in the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo.

In order to be considered, athletes must have a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average, have reached sophomore standing both academically and athletically, have completed at least one full academic year at their current institutions, and participated in at least 50 percent of their team’s competitions.

The team is selected by a vote of College Sports Information Directors of America member within District VIII, which includes schools in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and British Columbia.
