Oregon State University women’s rowing assistant coach announced her resignation Tuesday, effective June 30. In her fourth season at OSU, de Soyza is leaving to pursue her master’s degree in English at Portland State University. During her tenure at Oregon State, de Soyza worked primarily with the 2nd Varsity 8 and Varsity 4+.
“This is a tough job to leave, because of the remarkable women of this team and my colleagues on the men’s and women’s coaching staff,” de Soyza said. “But the time is right for me to go back to school, and eventually I’d like to return to teaching.”
Before coaching at OSU and the University of Virginia, de Soyza taught high school English and worked as a journalist in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Oregon State was ranked as high as No. 16 nationally and finished 7th at Pac-10s this year, which also marks the last season for head coach . Owen, in his 15th year at Oregon State, announced last fall that 2006 would be his last season. The search for Owen’s successor is currently underway.
