Oregon State University senior women’s basketball student-athletes and each won two of the seven awards presented at the team’s end of the year banquet Saturday evening.
Butler, of Tacoma, Wash., was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Year and also earned the Free Throw Award. The forward was a Pac-10 Conference Honorable Mention selection after finishing second in the league for scoring at 18.2 points per game and shot .769 (143-186) from the charity stripe.
Close, of Bozeman, Mont., received the Carol Menken-Schaudt Award for leadership and the Academic Excellence Award. She led the Beavers in assists (149) and ranked second on the team in scoring at 13.3 points per game. The human development and family studies major was a first team All-Pac-10 Academic selection after earning honorable mention twice.
Senior guard of Lake Elsinore, Calif., was named the Most Improved Player, junior of Stayton was selected the Most Outstanding Rebounder and sophomore forward of Stockton, Calif., claimed the Most Outstanding Defensive Player honor.
