Men's Crew at Pac-10 Championship This Weekend - Oregon State University Athletics

The 18th ranked Oregon State men’s crew are set to compete in the 47th annual Pacific-10 Conference Rowing Championships that will be held on Sunday, May 14, at the CSUS Aquatic Center in Gold River, Calif.

Morning races begin at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, with the first heat of the Women's Varsity Four competition, and run through approximately 10:00 a.m. Afternoon finals begin at approximately 2:00 p.m.

“Basically with Stanford, Cal, and Washington being ranked as high as they are, we know that it’s going to be a tough weekend,” said head coach Fred Honebein. “I think the biggest thing for us is to go out and just pull a good performance. We’ve had a tough schedule, and we’ve really suffered for that in the rankings early on in the season. I think we’ve come around and we are going a lot better than we were earlier in the season. I’m excited to see what the guys can do. I’m really excited actually to see what the guys can do.”

“Preparing for this weekend has been really nice for the guys. They have had some extra time to sort of just relax and focus. We’ve been traveling pretty much every week and it kept getting guys further and further behind in the classroom. It’s nice for them to catch up on things they needed to do and relax and just focus on rowing and practice and not have to travel.”

The OSU women's rowing team will also be competing for the Pac-10 Championship this weekend as well.

The latest U.S. Rowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll (May 3, 2006) has six Pac-10 women's teams listed among the top 20: No. 2 CALIFORNIA, No. 3 USC, No. 8 WASHINGTON STATE, No. 10 WASHINGTON, No. 11 UCLA and No. 16 STANFORD. On the men's side, four teams are ranked in the Top-20: No. 2 CALIFORNIA, No. 3 STANFORD, No. 7
WASHINGTON and No. 18 OREGON STATE.

Both the men’s and women’s crews will be competing Sunday.
