Women's Rowing at Pac-10 Championship This Weekend - Oregon State University Athletics

The Oregon State women’s rowing team are set to compete in the 2006 Pacific-10 Conference Rowing Championships that will be held on Sunday, May 14, at the CSUS Aquatic Center in Gold River, Calif. This weekend marks the 20th anniversary of the event.

Morning races begin at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, with the first heat of the Women's Varsity Four competition, and run through approximately 10:00 a.m. Afternoon finals begin at approximately 2:00 p.m.

The 18th ranked Oregon State men’s crew will also be competing at the Pac-10 Championships.

“We’re looking to going out there and finish off the season with the best job that we can and we’ll see where the chips fall,” head coach Charlie Owen said. “I think the first varsity has had a pretty good season. We haven’t won all of our races but we’ve competed really well. I’m looking forward to see how we do this weekend. The second varsity and novice have been coming along as well. We’ve been talking about this weekend for a year now. It’s almost been a year exactly since we finished up the season last year. We’ve been talking about how we could come back this year and improve and get better. There is a lot riding on this weekend. In regards to how we finish place wise, I’m just looking forward to see what hopefully is the teams’ best race experience of this season.

The latest U.S. Rowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll (May 3, 2006) has six Pac-10 women's teams listed among the top 20: No. 2 CALIFORNIA, No. 3 USC, No. 8 WASHINGTON STATE, No. 10 WASHINGTON, No. 11 UCLA and No. 16 STANFORD. On the men's side, four teams are ranked in the Top-20: No. 2 CALIFORNIA, No. 3 STANFORD, No. 7 WASHINGTON and No. 18 OREGON STATE .
