Black Team Wins Spring Football Scrimmage
Corvallis -- The 2006
Starting quarterback , competing for the White team, completed 12 of 16 passes for 112 yards in his only action in the first half. He threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to tight end in the first quarter, but also tossed an interception that safety returned 41 yards for the first Black score of the game in the second quarter.
Backup quarterback played for both sides and combined to complete 12 of 32 passes for 186 yards. He had one touchdown, a 17-yard pass to receiver late in the first half, and was intercepted by safety . played the second half for the Black, completing 8 of 18 pass attempts for 121 yards and a 3-yard touchdown pass to Dan Weis.
“I thought the play of the quarterbacks was pretty indicative of what has transpired in the spring,” Beaver head coach said.
The Beaver defense continued its improvement during the second half of the spring session. Linebacker led the team with eight tackles and defensive end had three quarterback sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery – both Darlin and Van Orsow played with the first unit Black defense.
“The Black team defense was really solid today,” Riley said. “Jeff (Van Orsow) is one of those guys who just continues to improve. He did some good things for us last year, and he’ll do more for us this year because he is a hard worker.”
The team is expected to return to the practice field Fri., Aug. 4 to begin preparations for the Aug. 31 season opener against the Eastern Washington Eagles at Reser Stadium.
