Whiting Led Beavers in 5th at Pac-10 Championships - Oregon State University Athletics

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Oregon State women’s golf team is in 5^th place after two rounds at the Pac-10 Women’s Golf Championships, hosted by Arizona. The third and final round of the tournament will get underway Wednesday (April 26) morning.

The Beavers shot a 298 in the second round, bringing their tournament total to 605 (307/298). UCLA leads the tournament with a team total, 2-over-par, 578 (291/287).

“We had a good day, hung in there and stuck it out. They’ve had a great start and they know what they need to do. They need to get it together and finish this tournament. It’s just golf – you have to take care of one shot at a time.” Coach Rise Lakowske said after Tuesday’s round. “Leah (Whiting) had a great day. She was focused and was having a good time. When she missed a shot, it wasn’t a catastrophe; she would just get it up and down. Her putting was rock solid today.

Senior Leah Whiting (Hilo, HI) had an outstanding day for the Beavers, recording no bogeys to shoot a school record 4-under-par 68. Whiting’s 68 ties her for 3^rd overall. 68 is also the lowest single round score by any Oregon State women’s golfer since the program began. Whiting improved by 7 strokes after recording a first round 75. Her two round total of 143 is two shots back of overall leader, Amie Cochran of UCLA, who also shot a 68 on the day and has 141 (73/68) for the tournament.

Jillian Ferrante also had an outstanding day, shooting a 1-over-par 73. Ferrante is tied for 13^th with a 149 (76/73). Julianna Uhrik is in 34^th with a 156 (78/78). Jessi Gebhardt is tied for 42^nd after recording a 79 on the second round and a 161 (82/79) for the tournament. Sara Natwick also is tied for 42^nd with 161 (78/83).
