Women's Golf in 8th at Pac-10 Championships

TUSCON,
The Beavers shot a 307 in Monday’s opening round of play of the Championship, held at the Par-72 Oro Valley Country Club.
“They had a few holes that kind of jumped out at them. I think they played pretty well for having never seeing the golf course before yesterday. I expect them to use what they learned today in tomorrow’s round. Overall I think they played really well. They didn’t necessarily score well, but they played well. I’m anticipating that tomorrow they will score really well as well.” Head coach Rise Lakowske said after Monday’s first round. “Leah (Whiting) played very steady. She didn’t score as well as she could have, but played well. I was very pleased with Sara (Natwick), how she played and how she handled her first Pac-10’s. She played very well today.”
Senior Leah Whiting had the best day for the Beavers, shooting a 3-over-par 75. Whiting is tied for 22th after the first round. Jillian Ferrante is tied for 24th after a first round 76. Sara Natwick and Julianna Uhrik are tied for 33rd. Both shot a 78 in Monday’s opening round. Natwick is a freshman playing in only her second varsity event.
