OKLAHOMA CITY, OK Oregon State sophomore has been named the USA Softball Co-National Player of the Week. Miranda, who helped lead OSU to an upset victory over top-ranked UCLA, shares the honor with University of Kansas’ Serena Settlemier who tossed a one-hitter as the Jayhawks beat No. 2 University of Texas last week.
Miranda led the Beavers with a .556 batting average (5-for-9), five runs scored, five RBI, three home runs, a double, and a 1.667 slugging percentage as Oregon State knocked off top-ranked UCLA in Los Angeles and swept a pair of games against No. 14 Washington in Seattle. Miranda belted a home run in all three games, helping OSU to its first-ever road sweep of the Bruins and Huskies. The victory on Saturday marked just the third win against Washington in Seattle and Sunday’s shutout marked the first back-to-back road victories against UW in school history.
“This is a great honor to receive such a prestigious award,” said Miranda. “It was exciting going 3-0 last week in the Pac-10 and beating the #1 team in the country.”
In an amazingly rare feat, Miranda hit a pair of home runs just three pitches apart during a single at-bat Saturday against Washington. The first home run was called back as one of her teammates was called out for leaving base early two pitches later, Miranda homered again over the left field fence.
“Cambria had an outstanding weekend and really has contributed to all of our wins in the Pac-10,” said OSU head coach . “This is a well deserved honor for her and certainly a very prestigious award for her during her career.”
Oregon State has its best record over the first 40 games (33-7) in program history.
This is the first honor as USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week for Miranda and is Oregon State’s third all-time selection. Miranda also earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors for her efforts.
