WALNUT CREEK, CA Oregon State sophomore has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Softball Player of the Week, and Oregon State junior has been named Pitcher of the Week for April 18-24, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced on Tuesday.
Miranda, from Camarillo, CA, led the Beavers with a .556 batting average (5-for-9), five runs scored, five RBI, three home runs, a double, and a 1.667 slugging percentage as Oregon State knocked off top-ranked UCLA in Los Angeles and swept a pair of games at No. 14 Washington. Miranda belted a home run in all three games, helping OSU to its first-ever road sweep of UCLA and Washington.
McGowan, from Reno, Nev., led the Beavers to a perfect 3-0 record last week, holding a 0.00 ERA and striking out 21 batters in 17.0 innings of scoreless work. McGowan has thrown 24 consecutive scoreless innings. OSU’s victory over top-ranked UCLA was the first for the Beavers at Easton Stadium since 1999 a span of 10 games. McGowan retired 13 straight Bruin batters after the third inning en route to her 24th career shutout. The junior All-American (21-4) is one of just three pitchers in school history to record back-to-back 20+ win seasons.
This is the first weekly honor for Miranda and is the 5th Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week award for McGowan. The awards are the 30th and 31st all-time honors for the Beavers.
Oregon State has swept the Pac-10 Player and Pitcher of the Week honors on just three other occasions.
The Beavers host University of Oregon in a double-header on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
