Lamun, Smith Receive All-American Recognition - Oregon State University Athletics

CORVALLIS – Oregon State gymnasts Chrissy Lamun and Tasha Smith received the call to the podium to receive their second-team All-American certificates Saturday morning at the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships’ Awards Banquet. Lamun,a senior, earned honors on the balance beam and Smith, a freshman, collected her award for her efforts on the vault.

Lamun wrapped up her gymnastics career Thursday night during the second session of the NCAA Gymnastics Championships with one of her best overall performances of the year. She finished with a score of 9.825 on the beam to tie for eighth place in the session. Lamun is the first Oregon State gymnast to earn All-American honors on beam since 2000 when Katrina Severin and Annette Taylor achieved second team status.

Smith put the finishing touches on her first season with the Beavers by tying fifth on vault in the session Thursday night. Smith scored 9.85 when she stuck her landing on the Beavers final routine of 2006. Smith is Oregon State’s first freshman since 2000 when Tanya Ricioli earned second team honors on the floor exercise. OSU’s last All-American vaulter came in 2001 when Lara Degenhardt and Katrina Severin each earned the honor.

To be eligible for All-American status, the gymnasts had to finish in the top eight (including ties) in their respective session on Thursday night’s preliminary round of competition. The top four (including ties) in each session earned first-team honors while places 5-8 earned second-team.
