Buck Picked For USA Baseball National Team Trials
May 4, 2005
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State pitcher Dallas Buck is among the 13 players who have accepted invitations to participate in the 2005 USA Baseball National Team Trials, to be held June 27-30 in Raleigh, N.C. The USA Baseball National Team will be selected from a pool of 36 non-draft eligibile players, of which an additional 23 have yet to be determined. The official 20-man team roster will be announced on July 1.
Buck (Newberg, Ore./Newberg HS) currently has an 8-1 record and 2.10 earned run average for the 10th-ranked Beavers. In 81 1/3 innings, the sophomore righthander has allowed 33 runs (19 earned) on 63 hits and 29 walks while striking out 86. Baseball America magazine named him the nation's top collegiate pitcher in its midseason review.
This is the second straight season that OSU has had a player invited to the USA Baseball National Team Trials. Junior outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury participated in 2004.
"The National Team is defined by athlete performance in the college game," said USA Baseball General Manager of National Teams Eric Campbell. "This short list of invitees to the trials represents non-draft eligible players whose 2005 performance on the field has warranted an invite to the trials. This is a great group of players."
USA Baseball will announce a second list of invitees to the trials in late May, and a final list of invitees in June.
The 2005 USA Baseball National Team will participate in the 34th Annual USA vs. Japan Collegiate Championship Series in Japan from July 8-12 and a Friendship Series vs. Taiwan in Chinese Taipei from July 15-19. It will then return home to play six exhibition games at Durham Bulls Athletic Park from July 22-24 and July 29-31.
USA Baseball will announce a full National Team game schedule at a later date.
