Brandon Hern to Receive Robert Byers Spirit Award

Corvallis, Ore. - The Oregon State University Department of Athletics will present the Robert Byers Spirit Award to former Beaver wrestler Brandon Hern at the seventh annual Bennys Awards Wed., June 1 on the OSU Campus.
The Clinton, Wash., native was a member of the team for the 2002-2003 season at 197 pounds, before being called to active duty as a member of the National Guard. He was deployed to Iraq where he served 12 months as a member of the 2nd Platoon of Bravo Company, a unit that spearheaded the U.S. assault into Najaf.
The Spirit Award is named after former OSU rower Robert Byers, who died of cancer. The award is presented to the individual who has demonstrated courage in the face of adversity.
The Bennys begin at 5 p.m. at the Gill Coliseum Plaza (front entrance) with the Training Table Reception. Food, music and games are featured, plus it's your chance to become acquainted with OSU student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. The awards ceremony begins at 7 p.m. at the LaSells Stewart Center, with Bennys presented in several categories. Tickets are $25 for the entire event, or free for the awards ceremony only. Tickets are required, even if you plan to attend just the awards ceremony.
