May 16, 2005
The No. 6 ranked Oregon State softball team made history on May 14 when the Beavers earned a share of the Pacific-10 Conference title and picked up the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
Oregon State (40-14; 13-8 Pac-10) won the tie-breaker between No. 2 ranked California, No. 3 ranked Arizona and No. 4 ranked Stanford to garner the Pac-10 automatic bid.
The Pac-10 Championship is the first ever for the Beavers and marks the first regular season Pac-10 title for any Oregon State women's sports program.
Oregon State captured the season series against five conference opponents (Arizona, Arizona State, California, Oregon, Washington).
The most dominating softball conference in the country, the Pac-10 has won 17 NCAA Softball Championships since 1982. At least one Pac-10 team has reached the Women's College World Series championship game 21 times in the 23-year tournament existence.
All eight Pac-10 teams were invited to the 2005 NCAA Regional Tournament.
