Women's Varsity Eight is No. 20 in National Poll

Corvallis - The Oregon State University women's Varsity Eight team has entered the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association national poll this week at No. 20. The Varsity Eight is coming off a seventh-place finish at last week's prestigious San Diego Crew Classic, which included a victory over then-No. 17 Texas.
"This year's team has a great deal of depth," said head coach Charlie Owen. "We have great leadership from a large senior class and a very competitive group of sophomores who are making an impact on the top boats."
The Beavers' Varsity Eight team, as of last week's competition, included coxswain Stephanie Parker (Sydney, B.C.), Annie Halliburton (Bandon), Ami Rothberg (Astoria), Sarah Dubrasich (Corvallis), Andrea Pleven (Victoria, B.C.), Caroline Leibinger (Neu-Ulm, Bayern, Germany), Kristen Reid (Brentwood Bay, B.C.), Kate Laird (Bend) and Kristen Tomlinson (Victoria, B.C.).
Oregon State is one of seven Pac-10 teams in the national rankings. The Pac-10 Championships are scheduled for May 15 at Lake Natoma near Sacramento.
"The Pac-10 is one of the toughest rowing conferences in the nation," Owen said. "Anything can happen at the Pac-10 Championships, because the teams are all legitimate contenders."
OSU's next Varsity/1st Freshman 8 races will be April 16-17 when the team travels to Charlottesville, VA to compete against No. 8 Virginia and Duke. The 2nd Novice 8 and Novice 4 race this Saturday at the Covered Bridge Regatta at Dexter Reservoir near Eugene.
