Mike Riley Comments after Friday's Practice
April 8, 2005
Corvallis, Ore. - Beaver head coach Mike Riley had the following comments after Friday's practice at the Truax Center. The team returns to the field Mon., April 11.
Q. It's been roughly a week of practice. How are things progressing?
A. "It's a long process; there is no doubt about that. We've had a lot of good work, now we need to make the most out of the remaining spring practice."
Q. Has anyone really stood out to this point?
A. "There have been a lot of guys from time-to-time, it kind of goes back and forth. There appears to be a lot of plays being made by different people."
Q. Are the quarterbacks progressing as you would like them to?
A. "I think so. Ryan Gunderson had a nice day today throwing the ball, but they've all had their moments. This is a difficult time for the new guys, because they have had a lot thrown at them. They just get comfortable with what we are doing and then we add some more things - they take a few steps forward then maybe a step backward at times.
Q. Sean Canfield's situation is somewhat unique, how has he done to this point?
A. "It's a real bonus that he is here and not only him, but for our team. Sean has put in a lot of work already that he wouldn't have been able to do until fall camp. He will be just that much further ahead. Sean has a nice lively arm and he appears to be very poised."
Q. How has the defensive backfield looked to this point?
A. "I think they have looked very good. I have to say that Keenan Lewis, in particular, is playing very well. Sabby Piscitelli looks very confident, Lamar Herron looks good and Daniel Drayton has made a lot of plays."
Q. Mike Hass is a proven receiver, what are your thoughts on the rest of the receiving corps?
A. "We expect a lot out of Marcel Love, Anthony Wheat-Brown, Josh Hawkins and Joe Newton. Those guys have already given us a lot of production."
