Beavers Prepare for No. 5 Stanford, UCLA
April 20, 2005
Oregon State returns to Redwood City, Calif. this Saturday to compete against Pac-10 opponents, Stanford, ranked fifth in teh nation, and UCLA.
Two weeks ago the Beavers were at Redwood City to row at the Windermere Crew Classic. On that occasion, OSU topped No. 14 Wisconsin and No. 15 Michigan, while also falling to No. 2 California.
"I think we are as ready as we will ever be for this weekend," said head coach Fred Honebein, "Everyone is making adjustments and the guys are practicing hard. It's always good to race someone who is ranked higher than you because you have nothing to lose."
This week the Beavers moved into the top 10 for the first time this season, rising from 13th to 9th.
"Oregon State has always been one of the top crews in the nation," said Honebein. "It's a testament to the athletes and the coaches in this program. We don't like losing and we have set high standards and high goals, but I also think it would be good to try and get a little lower rank."
Racing begins at 9 a.m. Saturday with No. 5 Stanford. The Beavers take on UCLA later in the day with the first race agains the Bruins starting at noon.
