David Lucas Named MVP

Corvallis, Ore. - Oregon State University junior forward David Lucas has been selected as the recipient of the 2003-2004 men's basketball team's Ralph Miller Award, head coach Jay John announced Wednesday. The Miller award signifies the program's Most Valuable Player.
Lucas, a former walk-on from Tigard, Ore., led the team in scoring and ranked fourth in the Pacific-10 Conference with a 17.2 average. The first team All-Pacific-10 Conference selection also finished among the top 10 in the league for rebounding (6.9) and free throw percentage (.816).
Junior guard J.S. Nash was presented with the Ed Lewis and Paul Valenti Awards. The Lewis Award signifies team leadership and the Valenti Award is for desire and determination. This is the second straight year Nash has received the Valenti Award.
The Lew Beck Award, presented to the outstanding newcomer, was awarded to junior forward Jim Hanchett. Junior guard Chris Stephens won the Jim Anderson Award for most improved player and junior guard Lamar Hurd earned the Slats Gill Award for pride.
The awards were voted on by team members.
