Women's Basketball Places Four Players On Pac-10 All-Academic Squad

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State University placed four players on the 2004 Pacific-10 Conference Women's Basketball All-Academic teams, as was announced by Commissioner Tom Hansen last week. Seniors Brina Chaney and Hollye Chapman earned first team accolades, while sophomores Mandy Close and Karen Vickery were named to the honorable mention squad.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
Chaney, Oregon State's all-time blocked shots leader, holds a 3.55 GPA as a Business Administration major. The Bothell, WA, native finished the 2003-04 season ranked second on the team in scoring and rebounding with 10.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. She appeared in the starting line-up during 119 of 123 career games over four seasons at Oregon State.
Chapman earns first team Pac-10 All-Academic honors for a second straight year while boasting a 3.57 GPA as an Applied Visual Arts Major. The 6-2 senior reached double figures in scoring during nine of Oregon State's final 10 games, including tallying back-to-back double-doubles in the WNIT. Chapman led the Beavers in rebounding with 6.1 boards per game and ranked third on the team in scoring with 10.5 points per outing. She finishes her career as one of only seven players to score 1,000 points (1,152) and pull down 600 rebounds (650).
Close, a sophomore from Bozeman, MT, started 28 games for the Beavers on the season and holds a 3.19 GPA as a Human Development and Family Studies major, while Vickery, from Vale, OR, saw action in 29 games and holds a 3.08 GPA as a Mathematics major.
