OSU Swimmers Earn Academic Honors

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State's Birte Steven was named to the Pacific-10 All-Academic Women's Swimming Team as a first-team selection and Mari Embertson and Ausra Pacebutaite were named to the second team, it was announced Thursday. OSU swimmers earning honorable mention were Lynsey Foree, Jessie Hong, Kristin Huston, Christina Kinney, Danielle Kinney, Monika Miroslaw, Leah Schaab and Ashleigh Thomas.
Also, the Beavers' 3.36 team grade point average was the 13th-highest of any NCAA Division I women's swimming program in the nation, according to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
Steven (Hannover, Germany/Humboldtgymnasium HS) capped her career by placing second in the 200-meter breaststroke and third in the 100-meter breaststroke at the NCAA Championships held March 18-20. The seven-time All-American has a 3.89 GPA and is a senior majoring in Psychology.
Embertson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg HS), a junior, earned her first All-America honor by placing seventh in the 400 individual medley at the NCAA meet. She has a 3.58 GPA and is majoring in Business Administration.
Pacebutaite (Vilnius, Lithuania/Ozo Secondary HS), a sophomore, has a 3.55 GPA and is majoring in Business Administration. She placed 13th in the 100-yard backstroke and 16th in the 200 backstroke at the Pacific-10 Championships.
