March 25, 2004
Corvallis, Ore. - Oregon State University senior football student-athlete Matt Brock has been selected to the 36-member 2004 Dave Rimington Trophy Award Watch List. The Rimington Trophy, named after the former University of Nebraska standout, is awarded annually to the nation's top offensive center in Division I, I-AA, II, III, and NAIA.
The Roseburg, Ore., native has started 26 consecutive games and has played in the Las Vegas and Insight Bowls. He was an honorable mention All-Pac-10 selection last season for his efforts on the field and was honored for his academic achievements by being named to the conference's all-academic team, and to the College Sports Information Directors District All-Academic Team.
Brock, who was an all-state player as a senior at Roseburg High School, is one of three Pac-10 players on the list. Juniors Marvin Philip of California and Mike McCloskey of UCLA also represent the conference.
The Rimington Award has been presented annually since the 2000 season. Former recipients include Jake Grove of Virginia Tech (2003), Brett Romberg of Miami (2002), LeCharles Bentley of Ohio State (2001), and Dominic Raiola of Nebraska (2000).
The Rimington Trophy's Division 1-A winners are decided by a consensus of All-America teams that are selected by the Walter Camp Foundation, the Football Writers Association of America, the American Football Coaches Association, the Associated Press, and The Sporting News. The awards ceremony will be held in mid-December at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Neb.
