NCAA West Region Gymnastics Championship Field Set
March 22, 2004
CORVALLIS, Ore. - No. 3 Alabama and No. 15 Oklahoma are among the five teams that will join No. 10 Oregon State at the NCAA West Region Women's Gymnastics Championships next month.
California, Boise State and Cal State Fullerton round out the six-team competition, which is set for 6 p.m., Saturday, April 3 in Gill Coliseum.
Tickets for the meet can be purchased at the Oregon State ticket office or by calling 737-4455 or 1-800-GO-BEAVS. Reserved seats are $12, while general admission tickets are available for $8.
Three top 18 teams from across the country are seeded and sent to each of the six regional sites, and the remaining three spots are filled with teams from within that region.
The top two teams at each regional site will advance to the NCAA Championships, set for April 15-17 at UCLA.
Oregon State will start the regional meet with a bye before bars and will end the meet on vault. The rotation order was selected by a random draw.
In addition, there will be five all-arounders and four event specialists whose teams did not qualify for the competition. Three San Jose State gymnasts - Jennifer Greene, Shirla Choy and Greta Leach - will join Sacramento State's Nirvana Zaher and Binta Coleman as the individual all-arounders.
Sacramento State also has two of the four event specialists - Meloney Greer on bars and Stefanie Aeder on floor. San Jose State's Amberley Klein is the event specialist on beam, and Tiffany Chan of UC Davis qualified on vault.
