CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State softball's regular season finale double-header against No. 9 California on Saturday will also mark the end of the OSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's 2002-03 Food Drive. The Beaver student-athletes have already gathered over 35,000 pounds of food; their goal for the academic year had been 20,000 pounds.
At Saturday's softball game against the Bears, fans are asked to bring two cans of food or make a minimum donation. As a token of thanks, fans will receive a coupon good for a free small popcorn at the concession stand, courtesy of Sodexho Marriott.
The SAAC is an organization with representatives from all 15 of Oregon State's varsity sports. The group wants to show its appreciation for the support it receives from the community by organizing projects to help those in need of assistance.
The food collected at the events will go to Linn-Benton Food Share.
"We really appreciate the support the Food Drive has received from Oregon State fans this year," said Adam Daniel, a wrestler who is the SAAC Community Involvement chairman this year. "We've reached the goal we'd set, but every donation we get the rest of the year is just as important as the ones we've had so far."
