Sean Deacon Picked For NCAA Leadership Conference

Junior men's golfer Sean Deacon has been selected to represent Oregon State University at the 2003 NCAA Leadership Conference May 25-29 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort and the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
A total of 302 student-athletes have been chosen from college campuses across the country to participate in the seventh-annual conference, which is designed to enhance student-athletes' leadership and communication skills.
A total of 22 sports from Divisions I, II, and III will be represented.
Deacon is active on the OSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which organized a year-long food drive that raised over 36,000 pounds of food for the Linn-Benton Food Share in 2002-03.
The Scottsdale, Ariz., native was also selected, along with Courtney Carter of women's soccer, to serve on the Pacific-10 Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee next year as a senior.
Deacon was a second-team Academic All-District VIII and second-team Pac-10 All-Academic pick as a sophomore in 2002; teams have not been announced for 2003. Deacon carries a 3.73 grade-point average as a Business Administration major.
On the course, Deacon averaged 73.5 strokes per round in 2002-03, and holds OSU's three-round scoring record with a 205.
Carter represented OSU at the conference in 2002, and men's soccer student-athlete Aaron McHardy was selected in 2001.
Criteria for selection include the student-athletes' demonstrated ability and strong desire to be a leader. Student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have at least one year of eligibility remaining the following academic year to be eligible.
