April 21, 2003
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State senior Brynnen Guthrie has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Softball Player of the Week for the week of April 15-20, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced on Monday.
Guthrie, from Winchester, OR, led the Beavers in batting with a .625 average (5-for-8) in a pair of games over the weekend against rival No. 20 University of Oregon. The second baseman tallied a pair of doubles to raise her season total to 10, scored a run and finished with two RBI. She finished with a 3-for-4 performance from the plate in Saturday's victory, helping the Beavers break a five-game losing streak.
With her performances against the Ducks, Guthrie raised her season batting average to a team-leading .386.
The Pac-10 Player of the Week honor is the first for Guthrie in her career and marks Oregon State's 20th all-time selection.
Oregon State will host Portland State on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in a non-conference double-header.
