Men's Rowing Opens Spring Season At Crew Classic

SCHEDULE: Oregon State begins its spring season this weekend when it takes varsity, junior varsity, and novice eights to the San Diego Crew Classic, which runs Sat.-Sun, Apr. 5-6 on the 2,000-meter Mission Bay course. The top varsity eights from the west coast, along with several from across the nation, will vie for the prestigious Copley Cup, which will go to the winner of Sunday's Grand Final. LAST ACTION: OSU's last competition was Nov. 10, when the varsity eight finished second at the Head of the Lake Regatta in Seattle in a head race (roughly 2-3 miles) on Montlake Cut. The varsity eight recorded a time of 15 minutes, 44.96 seconds, which put it 28 seconds back of Washington, but ahead of six other boats. The JV was third to UW's two squads, but beat Victoria and Gonzaga.
LAST YEAR: OSU placed third in the Copley Cup Grand Final, finishing two seconds behind second-place Washington and less than seven back of California. The JV finished third, and the novice fifth.
