Beavs Move Up In CRCA National Rankings
April 10, 2002
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - -
The Oregon State men's crew program jumped five spots to No. 8 in the April 10 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association poll released Wednesday morning.
OSU's No. 8 ranking is the highest it has been slated in the four-year history of the CRCA poll. OSU climbed as high as No. 10 last year.
The Beavers, ranked 13th in the preseason poll, surged up the list thanks to a strong performance last weekend at the San Diego Crew Classic, where the varsity eight notched wins over then-No. 9 Yale, No. 12 Temple and No. 17 Stanford in the Copley Cup Final.
"We're honored with the ranking, but we're a little leery of moving up five spots after only one race," eighth-year OSU coach Dave Reischman said. "We realize we have a lot of racing left to do."
California, Harvard and Washington held down the top three spots, respectively, from the preseason rankings this week.
