Softball Hosts Strike Out Cancer Days
March 26, 2002
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The No. 15 ranked Oregon State University softball program will host Strike Out Cancer Days on Friday, March 29, and Saturday, March 30 when the Beavers face in-state rival University of Oregon.
Strike Out Cancer is a program sponsored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) in an effort to raise funds and awareness in the fight against cancer.
"It's a great opportunity to create some awareness for our athletes and our fans, and a way to give back - even if it's in a small financial way," said OSU head coach Kirk Walker.
2001 marked the first full year of the Strike Out Cancer program and NFCA member schools raised a total of $39,385.
Donations during the Civil War games will be taken to the local American Cancer Society's Linn-Benton Relay for Life, located in Eugene.
"We are excited to be able to do something and hopefully start a tradition that gets bigger and better each year," said Walker.
Those contributing $10 or more will be eligible for an array of prizes from the OSU Athletic Department.
