NCAA West Regional Gymnastics Championship Field Set
March 25, 2002
CORVALLIS, Ore. - No. 4 Utah and No. 9 Oklahoma are among the five teams that will join 13th-ranked Oregon State at the NCAA West Region Women's Gymnastics Championships next month.
No. 24 Southern Utah, Washington, and Boise State round out the six-team field for the competition, which is set for 6 p.m., Saturday, April 6 in Gill Coliseum.
The top two teams at the regional competition will advance to the NCAA Championships, set for April 18-20 at Alabama. Oregon State will start the regional meet on vault, followed by a bye before competing on bars. The Beavers then move to beam and will have another bye before finishing the meet on floor. The rotation order was selected by a random draw.
In addition, there will be five all-arounders and four event specialists whose teams did not qualify for the competition. Two San Jose State gymnasts - Dani Albright and Shirla Choy - will join California's My-Lan Dodd, Seattle Pacific's Alison Siegel-McAfee and Sacramento State's Toni Peterson as individual all-around qualifiers.
San Jose State also had a gymnast qualify as an event specialist, with Kasey Carter representing the Spartans on beam. Sacramento State will bring two event specialists to Corvallis, Nirvana Zaher on vault and Lori Gillette on bars. UC Davis' Tiffany Chan has qualified on floor.
Tickets for the meet can be purchased by calling the Oregon State ticket office at 1-800-GO-BEAVS. Reserved seats are 10 dollars, while general admission tickets are available for eight dollars.
