CORVALLIS - Oregon State has signed Anton Clarkson, a 6-2, 205-pound quarterback, to a national football letter of intent, it was announced Monday by Coach Dennis Erickson.
Clarkson completed his prep athletic eligibility at Venice High School in Los Angeles with the 2000 football season. He is currently completing his initial eligibility requirements at Venice High School and will enroll at Oregon State this fall.
Anton is the son of Steve Clarkson, former quarterback with the Denver Broncos and Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. Steve Clarkson played collegiate football at San Jose State when Erickson was an assistant coach for the Spartans.
The addition of Clarkson gives Oregon State a total of 23 players who have signed football letters of intent to date.

VENICE HIGH SCHOOL, Los Angeles, CA - Anton completed his prep eligibility at Venice High School
during the 2000-01 school year...his senior year of high school football was in 2000...he was a two-year starter at
quarterback for Venice High School (1999-00) for Coach Angelo Gasca...Anton led the Gondoliers to a 7-4 record his
junior year and 7-3 his senior season...he was selected for numerous honors during his two-year prep
career...following his junior campaign, he was selected second-team all-city, first-team all-league (Western) and
second-team all-region...as a senior, he was selected first-team all-city, first-team all-league and first-team all-region...
he was named the Western League Offensive Player of the Year in 2000...in two years for Venice he passed
for 5,497 yards and 55 touchdowns in 21 games...he also ran for 13 touchdowns...in 11 games during his junior
season, Anton completed 118 of 190 passes (.621 percentage) for 2,512 yards and 27 touchdowns, including a long of
75 yards...he was intercepted only six times...he carried the ball 70 times for 125 yards and three touchdowns...in a
10-game senior season, Anton completed 155 of 235 passes (.660 percentage) for 2,985 yards and 28 touchdowns,
including a long of 95 yards...he was intercepted only four times as a senior...Anton carried the football 122 times for
407 yards (3.3 average) and 10 touchdowns...all told, he accounted for 6,029 yards of total offense and 68
touchdowns in his 21-game career...he completed 273 of 425 passes (.642 percentage) for 5,497 yards and 55
touchdowns with only 10 interceptions, plus he carried the ball 192 times for 532 yards and 13 touchdowns...his top
individual game as a prep was against University High School (Los Angeles) during his senior season...in that game
he completed 20 of 24 passes for 406 yards and five touchdowns, plus he rushed for 55 yards on five carries for an
additional touchdown...one of his top thrills at Venice High School was playing against rival Palisades High School,
which was coached by his father, Steve Clarkson.
