Several Beavers Recognized As Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars

Several Oregon State student-athletes have been recognized as Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars for the year 2001.
The program honors undergraduate student-athletes of color who exemplify the standards set by tennis great Arthur Ashe Jr. In order to be considered, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 and be active on their campus and in the community.
Women's soccer led the way with three athletes honored. Junior Olivia Jackson was a first team selection, while senior Jerika Duran earned second team honors. Senior Allison Hamada captured third team recognition.
Junior Dennis Weathersby was a third team recipient for football.
Five other Beavers were honored in their respective sports. Only one team was selected for each of these sports. Sophomore Sean Deacon and junior Todd Deacon were honored in men's golf, junior Jerra Lopez was honored in gymnastics, senior Paul Barron was recognized in wrestling, junior Emmy Gardner was recognized in crew.
