Pac-10 Conference All-Academic Teams Announced

CORVALLIS, Ore. - - A total of 25 Oregon State University athletes from men's and women's golf, crew, and baseball were named to their respective Pac-10 Conference All-Academic Teams it was announced Monday. Athletes must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be a significant contributor to their team to qualify.
Senior All-America softball player Tarrah Beyster earned First Team honors after accumulating a 3.57 GPA in Psychology, a 27-13 pitching record, a .424 batting average, and a school-record 16 homeruns last season. Senior 3B/OF Parisa Plant joins Beyster as an Honorable Mention recipient. Beyster is a three-time Pac-10 All-Academic First Team member, while Plant received honorable mention after her junior year as well.
Pac-10 runner-up Tim Mickelson and Anthony Arvidson represent the men's golf program as First Team members. Mickelson, a senior, sports a 3.68 GPA in Economics, while Arvidson, a business major, had a 3.34 in his junior year while winning two tournaments last season. He was named to the Second Team after his sophomore season.
Carina Olsson is a repeat First Team member for the women's golf team with a 3.92 in Engineering, and senior Rachel Borcherts was named to the Second Team with a 3.31 in Exercise and Sports Science. Olsson, a junior who led OSU with a 77.6 stroke average, was a First Team selection after her sophomore season. Borcherts was honorable mention last year.
Baseball players Paul Hansen and Tim Dryden were named Second Team and Honorable Mention, respectively. Hansen, a junior infielder/pitcher, was Honorable Mention last year, while Dryden earned his first such recognition in his senior season as an infielder. Hansen boasts a 3.43 in Business.
Men's rowers Sam Bobek, Andy Dietrick, Andrew Jackson, and Bryan Reiman were All-Academic Team selections, and Emmy Gardner was picked as a coxswain. Bobek, a junior, heads the list with a 3.95 in Biology/Pre-Dentistry. All five rowers will return next season. The varsity eight finished 13th nationally last season.
The women's crew was well-represented, as eight of the nine members of the varsity eight boat earned First-Team recognition. Cassie Bouska, Annie Godwin, Jenelle Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, Jaclyn Melcher, Abigail Roos, Sarah Wachs, and Amanda Westfall were honored. The varsity eight was 15th at the NCAA Championships last season.
Second-Team members were Joy Jordan, Erika Kirsch, Kristin Lovro, and Megan Oest.
