Ken Simonton Named to Football News All-America Team

Corvallis, Ore. - Oregon State University junior tailback Ken Simonton has been selected a Football News Preseason Second Team All-American, the publication announced June 19. The Football News is a publication that has covered professional and intercollegiate football since 1939.
The publication honored Simonton at the conclusion of the 1999 season by naming him to its first team All-Pac-10 Conference and Honorable Mention All-American Teams. Simonton enters this season with 2,514 career rushing yards, 39 yards shy overtaking Dave Schilling as the school's career rushing leader. He is also Oregon State's career scoring leader with 196 points, including 32 touchdowns.
The Football News' first team running backs are seniors LaDainian Tomlinson of Texas Christian University and LaMont Jordan of the University of Maryland. Tomlinson led the nation for rushing last year at 168.2 yards per game, and Jordan was fifth at 148.4. Simonton, who was 13th in the nation at 120.8, was joined on the second team by Texas' senior Hodges Mitchell. Mitchell was 24th at 103.5.
The Pac-10 Conference had two representatives on the publication's first team, junior tight end Todd Heap of Arizona State and senior punter Nick Harris of California. The only other second team player from the conference is senior defensive lineman Andre Carter of California.
