June 23, 2000
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Jualeah Woods has been hired as an assistant women's basketball coach at Oregon State, it was announced Friday by OSU head coach Judy Spoelstra. The addition of Woods completes OSU's coaching staff.
"Jualeah is an extremely bright and innovative coach," Spoelstra said. "She has had some outstanding experiences as both a player and a coach. She will assist us greatly in player development, on-campus recruiting, video editing and exchanges, and summer camp."
Woods spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at California. She was a four-year starter at small forward for Southern California before graduating in 1994 and was later a practice player for the Long Beach StingRays of the American Basketball League.
"I am proud to be a part of the OSU family, and I am looking forward to working and learning from coach Spoesltra and the wonderful coaching staff that she has put together," Woods said.
Before joining the coaching staff at California, Woods was the head coach at Santa Monica, Calif., High School for two seasons. Woods graduated from USC in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in Public Administration.
While playing for USC, Woods helped the school to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances - including three trips to the Sweet 16 - and an 89-31 record. She is still sixth on USC's list of career leaders in 3-pointers made.
Woods is originally from Berkeley, Calif., where she was Northern California Player of the Year for Berkeley High as a senior in 1990.
