Two Beavers Earn Academic Honors

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Oregon State's Cassie Bouska and Carina Olsson were named to the GTE Spring At-Large Academic All-District VIII second team squad, it was announced Thursday.
Bouska, a senior on the crew team, and Olsson, a junior on the golf team, both earned the honor for the first time.
Bouska carries a 3.88 GPA in biology and has been honored as a National Scholar Athlete by the Collegiate Rowing Association. She has been a member of the Varsity 8 boat for the past two seasons, and the Beavers have advanced to the NCAA Championships both years.
Olsson has a 3.92 GPA as an electrical engineering major. She competed in eight tournaments for OSU this season with a stroke average of 77.6, which was the best on the team. Her top finish came at the Peg Barnard Collegiate, where she tied for seventh place.
In order to be considered for the award, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA, be a starter or significant reserve and be in at least their second season at their current school. The spring at-large program consists of the sports of golf, crew, track and tennis. District VIII is made up of schools in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Utah and British Columbia.
