May 16, 2000
CORVALLIS, Ore. - - The No. 15 Oregon State women's varsity eight crew has been selected to compete in the NCAA Championships in Camden, N.J., May 26-28. Oregon State won the third-level final at last season's Championships to finish 13th overall in the country.
"We're excited for our program to be able have an opportunity to race in the National Championships and to see where we stack up," OSU coach Charlie Owen said. "I'm really excited about the opportunity for the women on our team to have a chance to race at the National Championships. We've worked really hard all year toward this goal, and it's great to have the opportunity."
OSU was one of five Division I schools selected to bring a varsity eight to compete at the NCAAs after their third-place performance at the Pacific-10 Championships May 14. This year marks the third time in the last four years that OSU has rowed in the NCAA Championships.
"Every year it's more difficult for us to get into the NCAAs," Owen said. "Rowing is getting more competitive throughout the country, so it's exciting for us to see that we can still gain a birth in the NCAAs again."
The varsity eight crew will be Amanda Westfall, Annie Godwin, Jenny Johnson, Jaclyn Melcher, Sarah Wachs, Abby Roos, Cassie Bouska, Jamie Stephenson, and Jennelle Johnson.
