Bowlby Wins Greco-Roman Title

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State wrestler Andy Bowlby (Newberg, Ore./Newberg HS) won the Greco-Roman title at 130 kilograms during the FILA Junior National Championships last weekend. Bowlby, who won the tournament's award for the most pins, will represent the United States in the FILA Junior World Championships to be held July 3-6 in France.
The national tournament was held May 11-14 in Lincoln, Neb. The Junior National Championships are for wrestlers age 20 and under.
Four other OSU wrestlers also placed in the Greco-Roman meet as Jack Wynne (Bend, Ore./Bend HS) was second at 97 kilos, Shane Cunanan (Spokane, Wash./Central Valley HS)was third at 63 kilos, Ryan Jorgensen (La Grande, Ore./La Grande HS) was sixth at 85 kilos and Wes Balensifer (Warrenton, Ore./Warrenton HS) was seventh at 97 kilos. In the freestyle competition, Bowlby was fourth at 130 kilos and Balensifer was eighth at 97 kilos.
Prior to the World Championships, Bowlby will spend two weeks at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
