No. 27 Men's Golf Qualifies For NCAA West Regional

CORVALLIS, Ore. - - The No. 27 Oregon State men's golf team qualified for the NCAA West Regional, which will be held in Fresno, Calif., May 18-20 at the par 72 Riverbend Golf Course.
A total of 81 teams and 17 individuals will compete in three regional tournaments - East, Central, and West - which will be held to determine which teams and individuals qualify for the NCAA Championships in Opelika, Ala., May 31-June 3. Each region is comprised of teams from districts within that region. The West Regional has 27 teams - six from District VII, 12 from District VIII, including nine Pacific-10 Conference teams, and nine additional teams. Arizona State and Brigham Young are the top seeds in the West, and OSU is the fifth seeded team from District VIII.
The Beavers, who have qualified for regional play in three of the last four seasons under coach Mike Ketcham, placed 14th at last year's West Regional, and missed the cut for a birth in the NCAA Championships. Anthony Arvidson led the Beavers with a 7-over 223, including a first-round 69, as he finished 36th. OSU shot two rounds of 295, but faltered in the second round with a 310.
OSU's best finish at the West Regional came in 1994 when they placed 8th. The Beavers went on to a 25th-place showing at the NCAAs that year.
Arizona State claimed the team title at last year's regional with a 10-under total of 854, while Jeff Quinney, from ASU, won the individual championship with a 7-under 209.
