April 26, 2000
EUGENE, Ore. - - The Oregon State women's golf team finished in ninth place at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships after shooting a 305 on Wednesday at the par 72 Eugene Country Club.
Stacie Ferguson, a true freshman, led the Beavers with a three-round total of 10-over par 226 after shooting a 78 in the final round to finish in a tie for 14th.
"Our ball striking is improving every week," OSU coach Rise Lakowske said. "This week it was more of having our short game falter. We are going to work hard on that area again this week as we prepare for Regional."
Carina Olsson had the low round of the day for OSU, as she carded a 74. Olsson ended up with a total of 230 to finish tied for 24th. Senior Rachel Borcherts finished 41st after shooting 236, with a 76 on Wednesday. Anne Brooksby was 53rd with a 242, Brie Del Bone 54th at 244, and Reena Eklund placed 45th with a 237while playing as an individual.
"The Eugene Country Club is a very difficult course, much harder than we'll see at the Regional at the Karsten Course in Tempe," Lakowske said.
Top-ranked Arizona won the team title by shooting 883, including a final-round 290, while USC's Candie Kung claimed medalist honors by going 2-over for the tournament at 218.
The West Regional runs May 11-13 in Tempe, Ariz.
