Men's Golf Fifth at the Halfway Point of the Pac-10 Championships
April 24, 2000
John Lepak fired rounds of 2-under-par 70 and 5-under 67 to lead the Oregon State University men's golf team into fifth place at the halfway point of the Pacific-10 Conference Championships on the Arizona State University campus.
Lepak, the 1999 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, is in third at 137. The sophomore's 67 was the second-lowest score for the second round, and represents an individual collegiate low for Lepak. In addition, there has been only seven lower scores carded in the history of the OSU program.
The Beavers as a team are in fifth after rounds of 366 and 357. The 723 total is one shot better than sixth place Washington. The host Sun Devils are a 690, 17 shots in front of second-place Oregon.
Lepak's teammate Bryan Geiberger is tied for 50th at 151, and Eric Dahm is tied for 58th at 161.
Arizona State's Paul Casey, who won last week's Thunderbird Invitational on the same course, is the individual leader at 131. He shot 65 in the second round, and enters Tuesday's action four shots in front of second-place holder Jonas Runnquist of ASU.
The tournament, which is being held at the Karsten Golf Course, is the only event of the season where the top five individual scores on a six-member team count toward the team total.
