Softball Team Defeats California
April 15, 2000
Berkeley, Cal. -
The No. 12 Oregon State University (30-13-1, 2-7 in Pac-10) women's softball team won its second Pacific-10 Conference game in the last three outings, defeating the No. 7 California Bears (39-13, 3-7), 5-2.
The Beavers used timely hitting, and took advantage of three Bear errors to win their second road conference game of the season.
"We hit the ball very well today, and a lot of our outs were hard hit balls," OSU Head Coach Kirk Walker said. "We had offensive production throughout the lineup. This was just a very good victory."
Brynnen Guthrie and Parisa Plant each had two hits for the Beavers. Shawna Feldt, Shelly Prochaska, Tracie Feldt, and Tarrah Beyster accounted for the other four hits.
Jenni Jodoin provided the winning run, when Oregon State pushed two across in the third. Jodoin hit a sacrifice fly to score Prochaska. The Beavers scored earlier in the inning when Shawna Feldt touched home base after Bear catcher Courtney Scott had an errant throw trying to catch Guthrie stealing.
Oregon State scored two insurance runs in the seventh inning, coming on RBI singles by Guthrie and Beyster.
Beyster earned the victory on the mound for OSU, improving her record to 19-9 for the season. The right-hander struck out four, allowed nine hits, and two earned runs.
The Beavers will continue an eight-game stretch away from home Sunday at California. The team plays a doubleheader at Portland State Wednesday, before hosting Oregon in doubleheader April 22.
