Washington State is the only other team that does not appear in the top 50. Nine teams, including Oregon State, appear in the top 25. Here are the teams, with rankings in parentheses: Arizona State (4), Fresno State (8), UNLV (9), Arizona (11), Washington (15), New Mexico (17), USC (21), UCLA (23), Oregon State (25), Oregon (27), Oklahoma (33), TCU (35), Colorado State (39), California (46), Washington State, Swedish National Team, and Arizona State's 'B' team.
THE BEAVERS IN OTHER POLLS: OSU is ranked eighth in the Apr. 5 District VIII Coaches Poll, and 30th in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. The Beavers have been as high as 22nd in the Golfstat rankings on Mar. 20. John Lepak is ranked highest in the MasterCard poll, at 58th. Lepak is 68 in the Golfweek rankings, and 77th in Golfstat.
HEAD COACH MIKE KETCHAM ON THE COURSE AND TOURNAMENT: "The Sun Devil will be a good tournament for us. Randy (ASU head coach Randy Lein) always fields a fantastic event, every year it's a great field. This is a good chance for us to go down and see the golf course because we'll be going back down a week later for Pac-10s, which will be on the same course.
"Four out of the five kids that are going down there, with the exception of Eric Dahm, have played the course before. This will be a good chance for Eric to see the golf course before the Pac-10 Championships.
"It's a good golf course for us. It's relatively flat, the greens are smooth, and they're not very undulated. It's a golf course on which I expect you will see some pretty low numbers.
"It's a lot like Trysting Tree Golf Course (OSU's home course), they're very similar links-style golf courses. Even though it's a links-style golf course, there are a lot of humps and mounds out there, so ball position off the tee is still a key. One of the strengths of our golf team is the ability to drive the ball.
"We look forward to the challenge. The weather has been absolutely awesome here the last few weeks and we've had some outstanding practices, so I'm looking for good things to happen."
LEADER OF THE PAC: Arizona State's Paul Casey slipped to No. 6 in this week's MasterCard rankings. Casey is the highest-ranked Pac-10 player in the country, followed by teammate Matt Jones at No. 18.
