Moroney heads men's soccer All-Academic picks

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State men's soccer player Nathan Moroney has been named to the District VIII At-Large All-Academic team. Moroney was joined on the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic men's soccer squad by OSU teammates J.P. Capodanno, Svein Groem, Greg Howes, Matt Olsen and Jack Wheeler.
The All-District VIII squad includes male athletes in soccer, cross country, swimming and diving, water polo and gymnastics from NCAA Division I schools in Oregon, Washington, California, Arizona, Idaho, Alaska, Utah, Nevada, Hawaii and British Columbia. To be eligible for the honor, an athlete must have at least a 3.2 grade point average, be in his second year of participation at the school and be an important contributor to his team.
Moroney (Hillsboro, Ore./Jesuit HS), a junior back at OSU, was named to the all-district second team. He has a 3.91 GPA and is majoring in Construction Engineering Management.
The MPSF All-Academic team was not broken down into first and second teams, and OSU's six selections tied for the third-most in the 16-team league. To be eligible for the MPSF squad, athletes must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, must have completed one full academic year at their current school, and must have participated in at least 50 percent of their team's games during the season.
Capodanno (Federal Way, Wash./Decatur HS), a senior forward, is majoring in Behavioral Science and has a 3.04 GPA.
Groem (Trondheim, Norway/KVT HS), a senior back, is majoring in Business and has a 3.47 GPA.
Howes (Tacoma, Wash./Franklin Pierce HS, Tacoma CC), a senior midfielder, is majoring in Construction Engineering Management and has a 3.28 GPA.
Olsen (Helena, Mont./Helena HS), a junior forward, is majoring in Environmental Science and has a 3.11 GPA.
Wheeler (Eugene, Ore./Peterhead Academy, Scotland), a junior back, is majoring in Exercise and Sport Science and has a 3.30 GPA.
