Waimanalo, Hawaii -
The Oregon State women's golf team shot an opening round 33 over par 321, and are in eighth place at the Dr. Thompson Rainbow Tournament. The three-day 54-hole event is being played at the Olomona Golf Course.
Rachel Borcherts, Carina Olsson, and Bridget Bieth each shot opening rounds of 8-over 80 for the Beavers. The trio is tied for 29th, 10 shots back of first round leader Mikaela Parmlid of Southern California.
"This wasn't our most memorable round of all-time by any means," Oregon State head coach Rise' Lakowske said. "We don't play on this type of grass very often, so I'm hopeful the experience of playing on this course today will lead to a better score in the second round."
The only other two scores under par for the opening round were turned in by Lindsey Wright and Tamie Durdin of Pepperdine. The duo helped the Waves to a first round lead at 294, one shot better than USC.
The remaining Oregon State scores included Reena Eklund tied for 37th at 81, Anne Brooksby tied for 44th at 82, and Jennifer Ferrante is tied for 52nd at 83.
