Several OSU Athletes Recognized For Academic Excellence

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Several Oregon State athletes were honored for academic excellence as the Pacific-10 Conference announced its All-Academic Team selections for gymnastics, wrestling and swimming on Wednesday.
Five gymnasts, one wrestler and seven swimmers were recognized from Oregon State.
Lara Degenhardt, a junior gymnast, was a first team selection, while junior Stephanie Bychowski and senior Corrie Young both earned second team recognition on the All-Academic Team for gymnastics. Isaac Wood, a sophomore on the wrestling team, was also a second team selection.
Degenhardt, who carries a 3.45 grade point average in graphic design, was named to the league's All-Academic squad for the second time. She was a second team pick last season. Bychowski is majoring in business administration and has a 3.20 GPA, while Young has a 3.03 GPA as a human development and family sciences majors. Both earned second team recognition for the first time after claiming honorable mention recognition last season.
Wood also earned Pac-10 All-Academic honors for the first time in his career. He carries a 3.23 GPA but has not yet decided on a major.
Nine OSU athletes earned honorable mention recognition on the All-Academic Team for their respective sports. Jerra Lopez and Bea Tistu-Whisenhunt were honorable mention picks for gymnastics. Swimmers Kyla Bond, Suzanne Broda, Sarah Cohen, Melissa Hseih, Amy Imwalle, Jill Personius and Bonnie Renwick also earned honorable mention recognition.
To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be a starter or significant substitute and have been enrolled at their school for at least one year.
